Winter supplies for displaced families
Winter clothing, maternity-hospital distributions and drainage work addressed different risks facing displaced families.

Reaching children as temperatures fell
UNICEF’s reporting for November 2025 recorded more than 206,000 winter clothing kits delivered to children in Gaza by the end of the month. The wider supply effort included tents, tarpaulins, blankets and mattresses.
Getting supplies to families also meant using services they already needed. Around 7,200 mothers who had recently given birth received baby winter kits and blankets through ten maternity hospitals. Hospitals and primary healthcare centres provided a route for reaching children and caregivers with winter supplies, diapers and hygiene items alongside health services.
Protecting the place a family sleeps
UNICEF’s November 28 account described winter work extending into displacement sites themselves. Teams pumped floodwater, reinforced storm basins, cleared debris from streams and pipelines, and installed sandbags to help keep sites from flooding. Cash assistance also supported vulnerable families facing winter needs.
These practical measures belonged beside clothing distributions because weather could undermine the protection a family had. Heavy rains were washing waste and sewage into populated areas, while overcrowding and limited safe water increased the risk of illness. Keeping a sleeping area drier and a drainage route open was part of protecting children’s health, alongside the supplies placed directly in a caregiver’s hands.
Sustaining support through the season
The November account warned that distributed winter supplies were not being replaced fast enough, with substantial quantities awaiting entry at the borders. It also connected exposure to cold with the risks facing children already affected by poor nutrition. Winter planning therefore depended on access to supplies and continued health and nutrition services.
Community distributions could provide household essentials, while maternity services could reach a new mother and baby at a specific moment of need. Flood-prevention work addressed the conditions surrounding both.
